Cane crushing will not be affected as alternate arrangement is made

Fire broke down at Mysugar factory in Mandya on Tuesday. The fire was spotted at around 5 am and the whole unit of making byproducts of cane was gutted in the incident.

The conveyor belts that carry the bagasse (remains of cane after crushing) caught fire and two fire tenders were pressed into service to douse fire. However, there was no casualty reported in the incident.

Factory chairman Nagarajappa disclosed that the loss is estimated to be around Rs 15 lakh and reason for the fire mishap is yet to be ascertained. A complaint has been lodged and the cause for the incident will be known only after the probe, he said.

Insurance

As the factory is insured there is no reason for anxiousness. Alternate steps have been taken to continue the crushing of the cane, he said.

There is around 80,000 tonnes of sugarcane to be crushed in the factory. The crushing works would be stopped by March 30 and would again begin in the second week of July, he added.
