A part of standing sugarcane crop on four acres of land was gutted in an accidental fire near Shirmalli gate at Hullahalli hobli in the taluk on Sunday.
The cause of fire is said to be the flicker of fire that erupted from the electricity line that has passed nearby.
Three acres of crop belong to Dr Dwarakanath of Hullahalli and remaining to Gurubasappa of Shirmalli.
The incident occurred around 12 noon. Timely arrival of fire tenders averted what could have led to a major mishap. According to an estimate only 20 per cent of the crop is destroyed.
