The fate of 427 candidates has been sealed in 75,010 EVMs during the two phase polls in the State. The counting of votes will be taken-up at the respective districts headquarters including three counting centres in Bangalore City.

According to official sources, the postal ballots will be counted first commencing at 8 am. The first round of counting will start around 8:45 am.

The number of rounds in a constituency will be determined by the polling stations and EVMs used in that constituency. The counting process for each round will take around 15 minutes.

The first result is expected by 11 am. The entire counting process will be completed by 1:30 pm, according to the Chief Electoral Officer M N Vidyashankar.

The Election Commission has mandated the use of 'Genesys software,' a web-based technology that will enable computerised counting, computing and also transmission of the data to the EC from the counting centres. Using the software, Returning Officers will upload the results to the EC website (www.eci.gov.in) as soon as each round of counting is complete. Anyone with an internet connection can do a constituency-wise check.

At the counting centres, each table will be monitored by a micro-observer appointed by the EC and also a supervisor.

A total of 68,000 personnel including police have been deployed for counting duty. Each counting centre will have a security cover with more than 1,000 police personnel. Prohibitory orders will be clamped in an area within the radius of two km from the counting centres to prevent any untoward incidents.

While the counting process for the high profile Bangalore South constituency will be taken up at SSMRV College at Jayanagar 4th T Block, the votes polled at Bangalore North will be counted at University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering.

The counting process of Bangalore Central constituency has been arranged at Mount Carmel College.
