The deceased Farhan, Sufiyan, Maaj, Udha and Jishaan Ali, all in the age group of 20-22 years, are residents of Arehalli. The five, along with two others had come to the spot in a car to play cricket.
As the ball fell into river, one of them got into the water to fetch it and drowned in his effort. Others who went to his rescue also met watery grave. Belur Police have registered a case.
