Five held for attempting bank robbery

The Kolar police has arrested five people - two from Kolar and three from Tamil Nadu for attempting bank robbery in the city. Police said another culprit managed to escape.

On June 18, the culprits gained entry into the Karnataka Industrial Development Bank near the polices station by breaking open the doors. However, they failed to open safe locker, police said.

On Monday, police took into custody, Hyder Ali, a  resident of Gudiyattam in Tamil Nadu, in the city on suspicion. During the interrogation, he confessed to attempting to loot a bank in the city.

Police also recovered gold chains weighing 495 gm worth Rs 17 lakh from him. Based on the information provided by the Ali, police arrested Naasir and Firoz from Kolar while Jaleel and Akthar were arrested from Gudiyattam in the neighbouring state.

However, another culprit Abbas managed to escape, police said and added that a trap had been laid to arrest him.

The investigation was led by Circle Inspector R S T Khan. Investigation Squad’s Hamid Khan, Anand, Khasim, M B Narayanappa, Sadik Pasha and Nagaraj were part of the team.
