Close to 20,000 people visited the ongoing Independence day flower show at Lalbagh Botanical Garden in the City on Saturday.

With this being the last weekend before the show comes to an end, the footfall was high. The flower show that was thrown open to public on August 7 is to come to an end on August 16, Sunday.

The show has earned the Horticulture department a revenue of Rs 1,48,71,030. On Saturday alone, Rs  64,54,940 was collected.

With footfall so high, the traffic police had a torrid time in managing traffic around the venue. It took more than forty minutes for the police to clear the congestion near the Lalbagh West Gate and also the Main gate, in and around Double Road, Residency Road and Minerva Circle.

A senior traffic police officer said, “As it was the final (in fact penultimate day) day of flower show at Lalbagh, huge crowd gathered to withess the show and this led to traffic congestion. The vehicles were stuck for a while in the afternoon. But the policemen deployed along the stretch were able to clear the traffic jam immediately.”
