Folk varsity centre inaugurated

Noting the rich folk tradition of Mandya, Vice Chancellor of Karnataka Folk University, Ambalike Hiriyanna said that a comprehensive study on the folk arts of the district, will be conducted by the varsity. Moreover, the varsity will also assist in reviving the folk traditions in the district, he said.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the Regional Folk Research and Folk Arts Study Centre of Karnataka Folk University, here on Friday. This is the fourth such centre, after Bidar, Male Mahadeshwara Hill in Chamarajangar district and Joida in Uttara Kannada district, he said.

MP C S Puttaraju said that the Centre would help in encouraging folk arts in the region. Kendriya Vidyalaya in the district will be operational from the current academic year and preparations are underway in this regard. Deputy Commissioner Ajai Nagbhushan and others also spoke.
