A racket in black marketing of food grains meant to be distributed under public distribution system was busted in the City on Thursday.

Activists of a local organisation raided a godown belonging to Sapthagiri arecanut company where wheat and rice stored in bags carrying the imprint of Diamond brand were stored. It is said that the raid took place when the bags containing food grains were being loaded onto a truck.

The seized goods are said to be worth several lakhs. Equipment used for sealing and the truck were handed over to officials of Department of Food and Civil Supplies later. The truck driver and porters have managed to escape.

The activists alleged that an organised racket involved in diverting the ration supplied for distribution under the PDS has been operating in the district and the Food and Civil Supplies Department officials and police were also involved in the irregularity.
