Four members of a family were found dead, hanging from a rafter in their house at Hosahalli village in Turuvekere taluk Saturday morning.

The dead have been identified as Boregowda (55), his mother Lakshmamma (70) and his daughters Swaroopa (19) and Swapna (17).

Rajamma, the wife of Boregowda - the lone surviving member of the family - used to sleep in a separate room in the house for the past eight years.

She is said to be mentally challenged. However, Rajamma said the door of her room was bolted from outside on Friday night and none answered her calls to open the door Saturday morning.

She cried for help and neighbours peeped through the window only to find the bodies hanging.

According to local residents, Boregowda had sold about eight acres of land he owned and was unemployed. Police suspect that financial crisis might have driven the family to suicide. Turuvekere police have registered a case.
