Hanur (Chamarajanagar dist): Four more people have been arrested in connection with the death of a tigress at Hanur buffer range under Male Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary limits in Chamarajanagar district.
The 12-year-old tigress was poisoned to death, severed into three parts and buried near Pachedoddi of Hanur range. Following this, Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre had ordered a probe by a committee, led by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Smitha Bijoor. One person was arrested on Saturday.
Police arrested four more people - Pachemallu, Ganesh, Govindegowda and Shampu - on Sunday. They were taken to hospital for medical examination and produced before JMFC court and remanded in judicial custody.
According to officials, the probe revealed that the female tiger was poisoned to death by miscreants as it had killed and consumed a cow that had gone into the forest for grazing.
A tigress and its four cubs were poisoned to death in June 2025 in M M Hills Wildlife Sanctuary limits. Several people are suspected to be involved and a search is on to nab them, officials said.
