KPCC Kisan Kheth Mazdoor president Sachin Meega said that he will appeal to AICC president Rahul Gandhi to direct the state government to release Rs 5,000 crore to cooperative banks and provide loans at the rate of 4% against the gold pledged by farmers.

Speaking to reporters, he said that Rahul Gandhi will interact with the farmers during his tour in Karnataka. Farmers have pledged their gold ornaments to private lenders and are not able to repay the loans borrowed from it.

He said that "farmers who have lost crops have failed to reap the benefit of the interest waiver programme. The last date for interest waiver facility should be extended to June 30," he said.
