A division bench of the High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice Ram Mohan Reddy on Friday stayed the government order on returning 21,300 sq yard of land adjoining Minto Anjaneyaswamy temple on Albert Victor Road in Bengaluru, to Male Mahadeshwara Hills Temple Trust (MMHTT).
Transfer of land
Co-operation Minister H S Mahadev Prasad had recommended the transfer of the said land to the Trust, stating that it belonged to the Trust. However, a devotee of the Anjaneyaswamy temple had filed a public interest litigation against the proposal.
The land in question was originally leased out for a period of 20 years in 1972. It was further extended in 1992 and the lease expired in 2014. The central police station and other buildings have come up on the said land. The minister, who is the president of the Trust, had written to the government stating that the land should be returned to the Trust and the government had agreed for it.
The division bench, while staying the order, directed the government to come out with a solution by the next date of hearing.
