Addressing mediapersons here on Sunday during his inspection of summer camps organised by NCC, Deshpande said that the directorate is presently training approximately 74,000 cadets in Karnataka and Goa.

Pointing out that eight universities and 835 institutions in Karnataka are associated with NCC in the State, he said that new NCC battalions will be raised at North Bangalore, Chitradurga, Haveri, Ramnagar, Chikaballapur, Koppal and Mandya.

Deshpande said that the apart from ensuring growth, NCC is aiming to improve soft skills among cadets, participation in environment awareness and creation of capability among cadets to provide assistance during natural and manmade disasters.

Deshpande said that in an increasingly materialistic world, it is the responsibility of the present generation to mould the youth, installing in them the right values so that they can provide leadership in all walks of life.

He said that NCC provides multifaceted training through a carefully structured training curriculum. Cadets also get an opportunity to participate in various adventure activities including mountaineering, trekking, rock climbing, shooting, microlite aircraft flying, para gliding, sailing and white water rafting.

Mentioning the achievements of Karnataka and Goa Directorate, Deshpande said that the directorate stood fourth in Republic Day competition held in Delhi. Also he said that eight NCC cadets from Karnataka and Goa visited Singapore as part of the youth exchange programme. Two summer camps comprising 425 cadets are being organised at Mysore by the NCC Group Headquarters, Mysore under the leadership of Group Commander Col R K Pant.
