Deputy Director of the Mysuru Palace Board T S Subramanya has been suspended, following a Lokayukta probe into the irregularities in gold-leafing works at the historic Amba Vilas Palace in the city.

The investigation was launched two years ago, after a complaint was lodged with the Lokayukta, alleging that gold-leafing works at the Palace, worth Rs 3.6 crore, were taken up in violation of the Karnataka State Transparency in Public Procurement (KTPP) Act.

The irregularities pertained to the works taken up in 2012-13. The State government had sanctioned Rs 25 crore for various restoration works in the Palace, to commemorate its centenary celebrations.

A total of 13 works were taken up using the funds. The Board authorities took exemption under the KTPP Act for six works, worth Rs 3.6 crore. They included gold-leafing works at Durbar Hall, which was later found to be of poor quality by an independent agency. The agency had looked into the works, following directions by the Lokayukta. Subramanya was not available for comments.
