Gold worth Rs 18.75 lakh seized at Mangalore Airport

The officers of the Customs Department seized 405 grams of gold worth Rs 18.75 lakh in two separate cases at the Mangalore International Airport on Monday.

The team of officials had intercepted two passengers -- 48-year-old Sukkur Moideen Kunhi from Kasargod and 44-yar-old Misri Naseemul Gani from Bhatkal. They had arrived in Spicejet and Air India flights respectively from Dubai and were trying to smuggle gold by concealing in specially designed footwear.

It may be recalled that the Customs officials had arrested the couple for smuggling gold worth 39.48 lakh on March 27 and 1.23 kg gold worth Rs 57.14 lakh on March 26.

The operation was led by Dr Kapil Gade I.R.S, Deputy Commissioner and further investigation is underway.
