Like the Cauvery and Krishna Irrigation Corporations, the government is mulling over setting up a Central Karnataka Irrigation Corporation to implement irrigation schemes in the plains, said Irrigation Minister M B Patil.

On Tuesday, he visited the spot where protests have been going for the last 65 days seeking implementation of the permanent irrigation project in Chikkaballapur taluk.

Separate corporation
Speaking to mediapersons later, he said, “There are already Cauvery, Krishna and Karnataka Irrigation Corporations. Apart from these, the government is mulling over setting up a separate Central Karnataka Irrigation Corporation or to convert the present Karnataka Irrigation Corporation to Central Karnataka,” he said.

“I have already discussed this with the chief minister. The appointment of experts and engineers to the corporation is underway,” he said.

Implementation of the permanent irrigation project, as suggested by irrigation expert G S Paramashivaiah’s report, is difficult. he added.
