Doctors working in various government hospitals across the State have threatened to hand in mass resignations on October 1, if their long standing demands were not addressed.
Speaking to Deccan Herald on Tuesday, Krishnappa, Manager, Karnataka Government Medical Officer’s Association said that most of the doctors, as a part of the protest, would submit their resignations to the Commissioner of the department of Health and Family Welfare.
Krishnappa added that despite repeated requests, at least 30 per cent of the sanctioned posts were lying vacant. “In most cases, the person specialising in one field is expected to attend to cases from other fields. Also, salaries for these doctors are not coming on time,” he alleged.
Apart from saying that oral assurances from U T Khader, minister for Health and Family Welfare, have not been translated into reality, he said, “We had called off the strike earlier this month after we had a meeting with him. There has been no change despite his assurances.”
Khader, who reacted to the issue said that certain decisions could not be taken in a short span of time.
“It cannot be done overnight and needs more time. That they would give mass resignations has not been brought to my notice yet,” he added.
