Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Friday said there is no proposal to ban any organisations and, there is a need to initiate action against both Hindu and Muslim organisations involved in instigating communal sentiments.

Popular Front of India (PFI), Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and some Hindu outfits are said to have been involved in creating communal disturbance in coastal districts. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is touring the state. After he returns, a detailed discussion will be held in this regard, the minister said.

Taking stock of law and order situation in Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Chikkamagaluru districts at a meeting with the senior police officials of these districts, at Mangaluru Police Commissioner's office here, the home minister told them to act tough against both Hindu and Muslim goondas.

Reddy directed the senior police officials to take stringent action against those instigating communal violence in Malnad and coastal regions.

With the Assembly elections round the corner, communal forces have become active. They try to gain political mileage by exploiting religious sentiments. The police should prepare a list of goons involved in creating communal disturbance and constantly monitor their movements, Reddy said.

He obtained detailed information from the officers on the communal clashes reported from Karwar, Sirsi and Mangaluru city. The officials also apprised the minister of a girl committing suicide due to the alleged harassment by Bajarang Dal and BJP leaders at   Mudigere in Chikkamagaluru district.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner T R Suresh, IGP (Western Range)   Arun Chakravarthy Jeji, Dakshina Kannada SP C H Sudhirkumar Reddy, Udupi SP Lakshman Nimbargi, Uttara Kannada SP Vinayak Patil, Chikkamagaluru Additional SP K H Jagadish among others were present.
