Govt will make efforts to retain Kannada schools in border areas

He was reacting to media reports that a Tamil Nadu government had ordered for closure of Kannada schools in that state. Speaking to reporters, in Bangalore, Yeddyurappa said he would take a detailed report from the neighbouring state before acting upon it.

The State would safeguard the interests of Kannada speaking community and teaching faculty in the neighbouring states.

No funds

He said the Centre had not released funds due for research activities in Kannada, the classical language. But the State Government had allocated Rs 50 crore for the same. 

Reacting to a question, he said the government would construct building for 160 hostels meant for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the financial year 2010-11.
