Govt neglecting Christians' welfare, says BJP

 The BJP has accused the Congress government of neglecting the welfare of Christians by not utilising the budgetary funds.

Participating in a discussion on the budget proposals for the year 2015-16 in the Assembly, Leader of the Opposition Shettar said that while

Rs 40 crore had been earmarked for the welfare of Christians in the previous budget (2014-15), only Rs 16.51 crore had been utilised so far.

Home Minister K J George accused Shettar of giving wrong information to the House. “You are not concerned about development. You are only after publicity,” charged George.

The minister said he was the chairman of the Christian Development Council and all programmes for the welfare of the community were being implemented effectively.

BJP members, including Umesh Katti and Govind Karjol, asked the minister to furnish the statistics he claimed to have and table it in the House.
