Karnataka government plans to introduce a syllabus for students studying in Madrasas across the state, Minister for Textiles and Minorities Welfare Srimantha Balasaheba Patil said.

As per this plan, students will receive a certificate equivalent to SSLC which will help enrol in PUC or other courses, Patil said. The Minister said children in Madrasas had been deprived of formal education. "To implement a syllabus for students of Madrasas, consultations were held with members of Muslim community leaders and education experts. In addition to religious education, Madrasa students will also be taught English, Mathematics and other subjects," he added.

ITI with job-oriented courses will be set up in each district under the aegis of Minorities Welfare Department, along with polytechnic institutions at the division level.

Patil said that five Priyadarshini outlets in Bengaluru were renovated. Measures will be taken to increase the sale of handlooms and textile products in Karnataka through digital marketplaces like Amazon and Flipkart.

A meeting of textile experts and entrepreneurs will convene at the Investors meet in Bengaluru on February 23.

The department had decided to confer 'Nekara Prashasthi' award to five weavers in the state every year. The award will be presented this year on August 7, he added.
