A proposal in this regard would be approved in the next Cabinet meeting and forwarded to the Union government, he said.
“My government is committed to naming the airport after Kempe Gowda. Nobody has any objection to this,” he said, replying to a question raised by Congress member D K Shivakumar.
Shivakumar said though the government had in July 2009 assured the House that it would name the airport after Kempe Gowda, no step had been taken so far.
Kempe Gowda has contributed immensely for the development of Bangalore, he said. “He constructed a number of lakes to ensure proper water supply to the people of Bangalore.
He even sacrificed his daughter-in-law when he was told that a human sacrifice was necessary for the successful completion of a lake project,” he said.
At this point, N L Narendra Babu intervened and clarified that Kempe Gowda had not sacrificed his daughter-in-law, but she had killed herself to appease a local deity in the interest of Bangalore.
