He inaugurated a cultural programme at the Kailasam Ranga Mandira of the Government High School in the town as part of the World Theatre Day on Sunday.
The programme was jointly organised by the Akademi, Taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Vivekananda Youth Club, Vahini Development Society, Vishwa Swayamseva Samsthe, Vidyagiri Educational Society and We Four team.
Theatre has played an important role in shaping the lives of the common public. It has the capacity to surpass caste, creed, colour, religion, language and geographical barriers in expression of human feelings. “The Akademi has decided to present a greater number of plays in border areas in the future.”
Circle Inspector C J Ranganath, who presided over the programme, said, “Despite competition from other media of entertainment, theatre is still popular in rural areas.”
Senior theatre artistes from Gudibande taluk Kasturi Jagannath and G Lakshmipathi were felicitated.
A booklet on district theatre containing information on taluk theatre artistes, brought out by Rajya Nataka Akademi, was handed over to the Akademi president.
Mysore artiste Vijay Jadugar presented a magic show and gave information on conservation of snakes. The audience was especially informed about the snakes used in the magic show, including recognising venomous snakes and taking precautionary measures while handling them.
