The Deputy Commissioner has the authority to appoint Returning Officers. The administration has already taken steps to assign polling booths to the Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers so appointed by the DC, Deputy Tahsildar Venkatarama Reddy told Deccan Herald.
Election will be held for 387 posts of which 106 are reserved for Scheduled Caste, 69 for Scheduled Tribe, 104 for Backward Classes ‘A’ category, 25 for ‘B’ category and 83 seats for General Merit category. A total of 170 voting booths will be set up in the taluk and 800 personnel will be deputed on election duty. Seventy-two booths have been identified as sensitive and 58 as hypersensitive.
As many as 1,09,917 voters will exercise their franchise of whom 54,266 are men and 55,655 are women. As is evident, women voters outnumber men.
Revenue Department sources said that all steps are being taken to ensure smooth and fair conduct of elections. Ballot boxes covered with grime have been cleaned and are being dispatched to polling stations. Election staff have been directed to keep their cellphones on throughout the day.
