'Grama Siri will strengthen rural culture'

Addressing the reporters on Monday, he said that it is one of the steps taken by the Parishat in reaching out to people. With many such programmes, Parishat will reach hoblis, villages, Taluks, districts and state.

“Grama Siri was conceptualised with the aim of acquainting the traditions and culture of Karnataka to the younger generation. Since the local people of various regions organise the programme pooling resources the programmes gains all the more significance,” he said and added that the programme was successful at Gummagiri village in Kushtagi taluk. He said that the success of the programme lies in the fact that Grama Siri is being organised by villagers themselves with great zeal and enthusiasm.

Dr Prasad said that state government is also giving great importance to development of Kannada literature by providing sufficient funds for various programmes of the Parishat.

“Government provides Rs 5 lakh per district for district Kannada Sahithya Sammelana and Rs 1 lakh for taluk sammelanas. Government has decided to release a total fund of Rs 3.20 crore for both district and taluk sammelanas,” Dr Prasad opined and added that government is also planning to release a sum of Rs 1 crore for setting up Kannada Research Centre in Bangalore and bringing out a Kannada historical lexicon.
