This has caused ryots to sell their produce at Gandhi Circle and Subhash Circle at throwaway prices. A litre of native groundnuts is being sold at ` 10. Farm groundnuts is sold at Rs eight. If you visit the traders in the morning, a gunny bagful can be purchased for anywhere between ` 250 and ` 300.
According to assistant director of agriculture department Bhanuprakash, groundnuts have been grown in 150 hectares in the taluk.
But farmers from neighbouring Mandya district are also venturing into the market — causing the fall in prices.
Bengal gram is also being grown in the taluk in about 50 acres. A curry preparation of the plant is also very tasty.
However, people would have to wait for the monsoon to be over to get a taste of it. For now, people can enjoy groundnuts to the maximum.
