It is said that a person by name Manjunath is carrying on chit business and Tipu, a subscriber had not paid his contribution for months together. A verbal duel is said to have ensued between the two when Manjunath demanded money.
While one group is alleging that Manjunath stabbed Tipu in the scuffle, other group is claiming that Tipu stabbed himself with the intention of avoiding paying money.
However, as the news of the incident spread, rumours spread like wildfire in the town. Fearing trouble, the owners of and shops and commercial establishments downed the shutters.
Police swung into action immediately dispersed the crowds on MG Road and Double Roads. Security has been beefed up in sensitive areas of the town to preempt any law and order problem.
