Group clash turns communal in Chikkodi

Tension prevailed in Chikkodi town after two groups exchanged blows over slaughter of cows in the town on Friday. Nine persons were injured in the incident.

According to police, a few youths took objection to slaughter of cows at Zari Galli following which an argument ensued between the two groups.  Soon, the tussle turned violent with one group chasing the other and exchanging blows.

Two of the nine injured have been shifted to district hospital, Belagavi.
Superintendent of Police B R Ravikanthe Gowda who visited the spot said that group of people which went to Zari Galli enquired on the type of meat was being cut and tried to record it on their cell phones.

A scuffle ensued even as other group objected. Police were ascertaining about the identities of those who visited Zari Galli and those who attacked in retaliation.
He appealed to the members of both the communities to maintain peace and harmony.
