He was speaking at a workshop to create awareness on applications of high-end technlogy in horticulture at Sumangali wedding hall here on Saturday.

The legislator said that National Horticulture Mission provides ample avenues for comprehensive development of horticulture crops and the farmers from the taluk should make optimum use of the facilities available under the scheme.

He called upon farmers to maintain harmonious relationship with officers and acquire information on the schemes formulated by the State and Central governments to promote horticulture.

Director of Horticulture Department, Dr S V Hittalamani, speaking on the occasion, pointed out that farmers have failed in adopting the high-end technology in horticulture. He opined that farmers can progress if they shun the unicrop pattern and take up multicropping pattern. He suggested the farmers to focus on preserving soil fertility by resorting to organic methods of cultivation.

Deputy Director of Horticulture Department Dr S Sainath, Dr P Shantham, Dr S C Chandrashekhar, Zilla Panchayat vice-president Venkatesh, member Jagannath, Taluk Panchayt president Jayamma, vice-president Prakash Reddy and others were present.
