Karnataka Growers Federation has submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Bagadi Gautham seeking an exemption to the growers from depositing their firearms with the police ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Following the announcement of Lok Sabha polls, the deputy commissioner had asked all licensed gun owners to deposit their firearms.

However, the growers feel that as it is the time of coffee and pepper harvest and thieves have been stealing the crops, permission should be given to growers to keep the firearms.

Federation former president B S Jayaram said, “In Malnad, houses are scattered and the mobile network is also weak. For self-protection, the growers should be allowed to keep their firearms.”
