Higher Education Minister G T Devegowda on Thursday called on Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala and urged the latter to give his approval for the Karnataka Universities Bill, 2017, which seeks to bring uniformity in administration of all state universities.

The minister also requested the Governor to give his consent for Dr B R Ambedkar School of Economics University Bill 2018.

Governor is said to have assured the delegation of Higher Education department of giving his nod to the bills after consulting the Attorney General.

The minister told DH, “A total of 19 universities in state are functioning under Higher Education department. Out of these 13 are governed by Karnataka State Universities Act, 2000, and the rest are governed by their respective Acts. To bring uniformity and be in conformity with the UGC regulations and state policies, the state government had framed the Karnataka Universities Bill 2017. The Governor's office had sought some clarifications and we had resubmitted the file with explanations,” the minister explained.
