The taluks of Uttara Kannada district, including Bhatkal, Honnavar, Kumta, Ankola and Karwar, received heavy rains since Sunday morning.

The roof and safety wall of a boiler suffered severe damages as the chimney of a fish oil unit located at Baithakhol in Karwar came down due to heavy rains accompanied by gusty winds. The machines in the factory were in motion when the incident occured. The labourers immediately brought the machines to a halt, thereby avoiding a major mishap.

At Bendekan in Bhatkal taluk, a mango tree came crashing down on a car and left the vehicle completely damaged. While, the bund of the ancient Jambaramutt pond in Karwar taluk breached due to water level reaching maximum. The taluk administration has taken all emergency measures.

Heavy downpour has been reported in Sirsi, Siddapur, Yellapur, Mundagod and Haliyal taluks in the district.
