“Arrangement between the Congress and the JD(S) in a few local bodies to keep the BJP out of power should not be construed as an indication for electoral alliance between the two parties in future elections”, Hariprasad said at a meet the press organised by the Bangalore Press Club and Bangalore Reporters Guild.

Sonia Gandhi, in a recent revamp of the Congress team, had retained Hariprasad as AICC General Secretary and also inducted him into the CWC, the party’s top decision making body.

Hariprasad denied that the party Central leadership had remained a mute spectator to the internal bickerings in the State unit of the Congress.

No internal differences

“There are no difference among party leaders. The party has unitedly held four ‘Nadarakshana rallies’ across the State to expose the misdeeds of the ruling BJP”, Hariprasad said.

To a query on the Congress playing second fiddle in functioning as an effective Opposition compared to the JD(S), Hariprasad said, “As a responsible party, we have been exposing the corruption and nepotism in the government. It is for the people to pass their verdict in the next elections”, he said.

Rampant corruption

Hariprasad said the ruling BJP government had damaged the reputation of the State due to its alleged maladministration and corruption.

“The BJP Central leadership has been reduced to toll tax collectors by Chief Minister B S Yeddyuruppa”, the Congress leader alleged.

Earlier in the day,  Hariprasad was given a rousing welcome on his arrival at the Bengaluru International Airport by Congress workers after his re-appointment to the CWC.

A bike and car rally was organised from Hebbal to KPCC office on Queens Road. The rally led to traffic jams causing much hardship to commuters along the route.
