Hasyotsava could have been better!

Held at Senate Bhavan with names such as Krishne Gowda, C P Krishnakumar, Richard Louis and Narasimhamurthy on Sunday, Hasyotsava to an extent lacked jokes that could provide humour coupled with good taste. While majority of the participants went about cracking one ‘below the belt’ joke laced with vulgarity after another, people went about laughing; in the absence of better choice.

Some of the wisecracks too, did have people laughing at those, but people certainly hoped it could have been better. A senior citizen who had come to the event with his grandson was disappointed. “I felt while television and cinemas got increasingly disgusting and pose a challenge to our ability to perceive, hasyotsava presented us with a tolerably good option of having a hearty laugh. But that was not to be,” said Balasubramaniam, a retired banker. Swati Rao, a chirpy teenager, also seemed disappointed with the quality of some jokes. “I am sick of this. It’s the same on television, in cinemas and what’s more, I even get such stuff every 10 mins, thanks to the forwards that my friends do using the cell phone.

I want some clean, creative and sharp jokes that entertain me, not those which bore me to death,” she said.

According to her, and a few of her friends, there is no end to vulgarity if one perceives it as humour. “But, after you have cracked the last joke on extramarital affairs, women’s and men’s private parts, sex and other stuff, there’s not much left for you to do. Instead, get out and start thinking better and entertain people better,” they said.
