The High Court on Tuesday extended the stay of summons by the local court against BJP leader D C Thammanna, who is charged with assaulting former MP Madegowda after his loss in the Mandya byelection in 2009.
Thammanna, who lost to Kalpana Siddaraju, a JD(S) candidate, had blamed Madegowda for the loss in the poll. His followers had attacked Madegowda at Gandhi Bhavan.
Following a complaint by Mandya Zilla Panchayat chairperson, the local court had summoned him.
However, Thammanna challenged the summons in the High Court and had obtained a stay.
Justice N Ananda on Tuesday extended the stay till June 5, after Madegowda appeared before the court and sought more time.
