The High Court on Friday ordered that notice be issued to the Union government on a petition against the issue of notice to Udupi-Chikmagalur MP, Shobha Karandlaje, by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The ED, in connection with a money laundering case, had asked Karandlaje to explain why she borrowed money from a private firm, Itasca Software Company, which had connection with former minister Katta Subramanya Naidu.

During the investigation of the KIADB land scam involving Naidu, the ED had served him a notice for amassing illegal wealth.  It was revealed that Karandlaje had borrowed a certain amount of money from Itasca. A notice was also served on her. Karandlaje had challenged the notice by ED, contending that she had already clarified about the money and that she was being “dragged” into the matter.
