T Yashwantha of Maddur and five others have filed a PIL stating that there were several irregularities in the appointments made to the college and in the infrastructure provided.
The petitioners claimed that the rules of the Medical Council of India (MCI) were violated in the recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff.
The reservation quota was not followed and advertisements for recruitments were not issued, they alleged.
Tenders were not called for procuring construction material, and instead, select people were directly given contracts for supplying them. Though it had been five years since the college began, construction work was still going on, they said.
They contended that the MCI rules mandated 117 teaching staff for the college but only 106 were appointed and during MCI inspections, lecturers were temporarily transferred to the college to boost the numbers.
The petitioners alleged that Director in-charge Pushpa Sarkar was not eligible for the post and that she was replaced by another person during the MCI inspection.
Out of the required supporting staff of 247, only 150 had been hired.
Yashwantha and others sought the quashing of the order appointing Pushpa Sarkar as director in-charge of the college. The also sought the review of all appointments and enforcement of reservation in appointments, besides better facilities in the college.
