HC notice to Regiment School

The Parachute Regiment School Parents’ Association had filed a contempt petition stating that the Parachute Regiment School had not changed the fee structure despite the single judge Bench issuing an order dated January 5, 2011.

The State government had amended the Karnataka Education Act, 1983, excluding the schools affiliated to the CBSE and the ICSE from the ambit of fee regulation. But a batch of petitions were filed, challenging the notification in view of an increase in the fee by 130 per cent in several CBSE and ICSE schools.

Justice H N Nagamohan Das had quashed the State government’s amendment order dated April 4, 1998, and brought the schools within the fee structure regulations of the government, preventing them from charging exorbitantly. He held that the hike in the fees was not supported by either the Central or the Karnataka Education Act.
