The High Court, on Tuesday, dismissed the petition filed by Karnataka Cable TV Operators’ Association and others who had contended that there were ambiguity in the rules of compulsory digitisation by adopting set-top boxes (STBs) to view TV programmes.
Justice S Abdul Nazeer issued orders dismissing the petitioners’ contentions making digitisation compulsory by adopting set-top boxes. The petitioners had contended there was ambiguity in the rules about compulsory digitisation. The cable operators had said multi-service operators do not have sufficient stock of STBs to cater to Bangalore’s population. The petitioners had also contended that STBs were imported from China and that the boxes distributed among the consumers would soon become obsolete.
The Mysore Cable Operators, one of the petitioners said that Mysore City does not come under Tier-2 City. They said that as per the provisional census 2011, Mysore’s population was less than 10 lakhs, and asked that the City be treated as a Tier-3 City and sought another six months to install the boxes.
