The High Court on Monday directed K Anbazhagan, general secretary, DMK, to approach the Supreme Court on his plea against allowing G Bhavani Singh to represent Tamil Nadu Department of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) in the criminal appeals filed by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha.

Disposing of the DMK leader’s petition, Justice Ananda Byrareddy in his order said that the Supreme Court had set a time frame for disposing the case and hence the High Court was not competent to interfere. It was open to the petitioner and the TN government to seek clarification from the apex court. The court stated that the appointment of SPP may not cause any prejudice in the proceeding and the matter can be taken to the logical conclusion by the Karnataka government.

The petitioner has contended that Bhavani Singh, appearing for DVAC, had not been appointed by the TN government.

Further, the petitioner also contended that Singh was appointed as SPP only in the trial court and there was no order appointing him as SPP in the High Court.
