A youth was washed away following the breach in a tank at a village due to heavy rain that pounded the taluk on Saturday night.

Raghavendra of Hanagal village in Belavadi gram panchayat limits in Doddamagge hobli, who was riding a motorbike to the dairy to deliver milk, slipped and fell into the tank that had breached.

The Fire personnel, who rushed to the spot, managed to retrieve the motorbike and the milk can. However, the search for the body is on. The water gushing from the damaged tank has hampered the search operation.

Damage

The Kalenahalli Road at Keralapur in the taluk is marooned due to the heavy rains, blocking the movement of vehicles. Most of the tanks and streams in Doddamagge and Ramanathapur are overflowing due to release of the Harangi waters through canals.

Lakhs of fish in the tank at Belavadi tank were washed away and the rainwater inundated paddy fields and damaged areca, banana, cardamom, betel leaves and other crops in nearby farms at Kalenahalli and Keralapur.

Arakalgud received 20.7 mm of rain, Basavapattana - 45 mm; Ramanathapur-35 mm and Mallipattana-33 mm.

The rain lashed Chamarajnagar, Mysore and Mandya districts as well.
