Parts of Belagavi district received heavy rain on Thursday evening.

Heavy rain accompanied by thunder lashed eastern part of Khanapur taluk. Seven sheep and a cow belonging to farmer Sakru Gurkhe were killed in lightning strike at Balgund village.

Sampgaon, Sanikopp and M K Hubli in Bailhongal taluk and Saundatti received light showers in the evening, while cloudy weather prevailed in Bailhongal and Kittur.

Oblapur and surrounding villages in Ramdurg taluk received heavy rain with thunders on Thursday evening. Two shepherds were struck dead by lightning at Oblapur. The deceased have been identified as Prakash Siddappa Karadiguddi (30) and Birappa Bharmanna Karadiguddi.

Youth killed in lightning
Dharwad district received heavy rain for over 30 minutes. A youth was killed after lightning struck him at Yadwad village in Dharwad taluk. He has been identified as Neminath Balesh Alasandi (23), a resident of Bailhongal. Praveen Tuppad was injured in the incident. Lightning struck them when they had taken shelter under a tree to escape from rain.

Gadag received first showers of the season on Thursday night. Rain coupled with gusty winds and thunder lashed the town for about 10 minutes. The rain brought relief for the residents from gruelling heat.
