This Dasara, if you find yourself a little under the weather, medical help is just a call away. With Ebola declared as a global health emergency, Dasara Arrangements, Cleanliness and Health sub-committee has decided to launch a dedicated helpline at three different places, besides opening dasara special health service centres at vital locations from September 25 till October 4.
Announcing this to the media here on Thursday, Secretary of the sub-committee and District Surgeon G M Vamadev said, while one helpline will be set up at the ED Hospital on KRS road, another will be linked to toll free number of the Health department.
Detailing, Vamadev said the health centres will be opened near Dasara Exhibition Grounds, Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens (Mysore Zoo), Food Mela venue at Scouts and Guides Ground behind the deputy commissioner’s office and in front of the police outpost atop Chamundi Hill.
A doctor, nurse and ‘D’ group worker will be deputed at every centre, who will work in two shifts between 8 am and 8 pm. In case of any emergency they will provide the first aid. Ambulances will also be stationed at the centres to shift the needy to the hospitals for further care and treatment.
Reacting to media queries, Vamadev asserted that though Ebola was fast emerging as a deadly disease, there was nothing to worry about, as intensified screening was being carried out at the major airports in the country. As a precautionary measure, the district Health and Family Welfare department was ready to handle such cases on the lines of arrangements made earlier during H1N1 scare. Private hospitals too have been asked to inform the authorities in case of any such patients.
Workshops on health related issues will be conducted between September 20 and 30 for elected representatives, industrial representatives, NGOs, senior citizens. A dedicated LED wall (screen) will be installed at the food mela venue to screen health and tobacco control messages. Street plays will also be staged at different locations.
