High alert has been sounded in major cities across the State in view of the threats of terrorist attacks following the hanging of Ajmal Kasab.
Home Minister R Ashoka said here on Monday that Taliban had vowed to carry out retributive attacks on India after the execution of Kasab and hence the State government was on its guard, by beefing up security at strategic places.
The minister, however, said there was no need to panic and the Karnataka police were prepared to tackle any eventuality.
He was speaking after inaugurating two newly constructed police stations in the City.
Ashoka said the Delhi police had sought the custody of a few youths arrested in Bangalore for terror links and the State government had agreed to the request.
The minister said the police force in the State was being strengthened by filling the vacancies. Around 300 candidates who completed their training as sub-inspectors would be assigned independent charges shortly. He claimed that the BJP government upgraded basic amenities at all the police stations after it came to power.
Bangalore City Police Commissioner B G Jyothiprakash Mirji said the police would be able to discharge their duties better with the new infrastructure in place. He said steps had been taken to check increasing crimes in the City.
