High Court denies bail to mining firm bosses

The High Court on Friday dismissed the bail petitions of the CEO and the Managing Director of Deccan Mining Syndicate Private Limited (DMSPL) in an illegal mining case.

Justice R B Budihal rejected the bail petitions filed by both CEO Ritesh Milap Chand Jain and Managing Director Rajendra Kumar Jain of the DMSPL, on the CBI counsel’s submission that investigation is underway and there are chances of the accused tampering with the evidences and influencing the witnesses.

CBI charges

The CBI has charged the two with criminal conspiracy, theft, criminal trespass and the under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. 

It was alleged that the company had illegally extracted iron ore in mining licence No 2525, which falls within the lease area allotted to the National Mineral Development Corporation Ltd (NMDC). 

The company undertook the mining after altering the sketch belonging to the lease area of the NMDC.
