S R Hiremath, the chief of the Samaja Parivartana Samudaya (SPS), questioned on Tuesday as to why former minister G Janardhana Reddy was still lodged in the central prison at Parappana Agrahara in Bengaluru, even after getting bail in all cases filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Bengaluru. Reddy is in jail on charges of illegal mining and other illegalities.
Hiremath said that the former minister should be shifted back to the Chanchalguda jail in Hyderabad.
He was addressing mediapersons in the city. The social activist said that Reddy was manipulating the prison system, by remaining at the central prison in Bengaluru, even after getting bail in all cases filed by CBI, Bengaluru.
Hiremath said that Reddy would have been shifted to Andhra Pradesh, if the State government had not indirectly supported his stay in the Bengaluru jail.
Bail has been granted to Reddy in the five cases filed by CBI, Bengaluru. Three more cases filed by the CBI, Hyderabad, in which bail is not granted, are not at all related to the courts in Karnataka, the SPS chief said.
“This is the information given by the deputy inspector general of prisons. Therefore, Reddy has no business to remain in the Bengaluru jail,” Hiremath said.
