The headmistress of St Paul’s School & College in the city tonsured a Class VI student in front of other students on the school premises on Wednesday, as he did not get his long hair cut.

In a complaint to officials of the Education department on Thursday, Cicil Borgayi, the boy’s father, said the headmistress had asked his son to get his long hair cut. Due to unavoidable reasons, the boy could not do so. Angered by this, the headmistress tonsured Samuel, he said. “My son is upset and is refusing to go to school. He is afraid of schools, teachers and even classmates,” he said. Cicil said the staff in the school were not giving proper information regarding the incident and they were sending him away, saying the headmistress was not there.

The teachers maintained that strict discipline was being maintained in the school. The boy was told to cut his long hair many times, but he did not listen. So, he was tonsured. Headmistress Lorita Vedamurthy was not available for comment.
