Yenepoya Medical College will host the 12th annual conference of Indian Society of Hospital Waste Management (ISHWM CON) on December 1 and 2, at Yenepoya Medical College in Derlakatte. The conference is jointly organised by Indian Society of Hospital Waste Management and WHO-SEARO.
Conference Organising Chairman Dr Ghulam Jeelani Qadiri said that proper disposal of hospital wastes is the need of the hour.
“Ten to fifteen per cent of the total waste from hospitals is regarded as infectious wastes. Creating awareness among public about the hospital waste management is essential,” he said.
Organising Secretary Dr Sunita Saldanha said that the theme of the conference is ‘Healthcare Waste Management-Moving towards sustainable solutions’. More than 300 delegates are expected to participate in the conference. The conference will also have participants from Central and state governments, defense ministry and railways.
