The Government is considering the proposal sent by E Sreedharan, Principal Advisor, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, to develop a high speed rail line between Bangalore and Mysore, senior officials in the Urban Development department said.

Although a official decision on the matter is not expected anytime before the budget session, officials said: “Given the dynamics of travel pattern between the two places, the suggestion seems good. However, we will have to consult with all departments concerned before we give a nod.”

A similar proposal sent by Sreedharan to Kerala (betw- een Thiruvananthapuram and Kasargod) has been accepted by the Kerala government. Karnataka, Sreedharan had said in his letter to the chief minister, could implement an HSRL up to Mangalore from Kasargod.

If both these projects get the clearance the State would have three separate HSRL projects. Besides these two proposed projects, the State recently asked the BMRCL to take up the contentious  HSRL expected to connect the Bengaluru International Airport with BRV Parade Grounds.
