Disclosing this to reporters after inaugurating the enclosures for cheetahs, Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Secretary Javagal Srinath said that it was for the first time that a cheetah had given birth to cubs in captivity, in the country.

He said that officials were unaware of fact that the cheetah was pregnant when it was brought from South Africa as part of the exchange programme between Mysore zoo and Leipzig zoo, Germany, during last week of March.

The names of the four cheetahs - Arjun, Tejas, Brinda and Maya - were selected during a competition held by the zoo recently.

While two male cheetahs are four years and six months old, one female cheetah is four years and 10 months old and the other is four years and three months old.
